Hortencia Salazar is a Federal Government contractor and works as a Contract Support Specialist at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. Born and raised in a family of 12 (7 boys and 5 girls) to Pastor Jesus and Hortensia DelaRosa, she was profoundly and deeply impacted by her parents to commit her life to the Lord Jesus Christ. Both of her parents have gone to be with the Lord, but her fond memories of them have kept her faith unshakeable, steadfast and strong.

Hortencia received a Bachelor of Arts degree in clinical psychology from The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), and started her Master’s program, but dropped out when she was diagnosed with brain cancer. BUT GOD supernaturally healed her in 2004. She gives the Lord Jesus Christ the glory for her miraculous healing amid the vicissitudes of life.

While working on her BA, much to her chagrin, Hortencia wrote countless papers only to be told and inspired by her professors that she had a gift of writing. Hortencia had written several poems before attending UTSA, but when she submitted one of her poems in a contest, she was personally notified by one of the judges that her poem was selected.  In 2001, Hortencia’s poem, The Phone Call, was published in the America at the Millennium: The Best Poems and Poets of the 20th Century (poetry.com).  In 2014, to honor her dad and keep his memory alive, she wrote a booklet entitled A Love Letter to My Dad. Though the booklet was not submitted for publication, it received rave reviews from her avid friends and readers.  In 2016, the book, Jesus Rocks, was published which she co-authored with her brother, Daniel DelaRosa. Hortencia also enjoys writing praise music just to sing them back to the Lord.
